As is often the case, a national organization has placed Sampson Community College’s Nursing program in the upper echelon of programs in North Carolina. The latest report coming from NursingExplorer.com

Out of 75 programs throughout the state of North Carolina, SCC was ranked seventh for its Registered Nursing and fourteenth for its Licensed Practical Nursing program. Dr. Veronica Stevens, Division Chair of Health Programs at SCC, says without regard to how well the program has done in the past it is always refreshing to be recognized as one of the best.

“We have a solid instructional team here, without doubt,” says Stevens. “The faculty is passionate about fulfilling our mission. We aren’t doing what we do just to achieve favorable rankings within the state. Our goal is to adequately prepare the best nurses possible, not only for the region we live in but for wherever they decide to go after graduation. Certainly though, we appreciate where we are in the rankings. It’s nice to see.”

Nursing Explorer is a resource website created to provide comprehensive and up-to-date information for nursing students and nursing professionals. This year, the group evaluated 75 schools NCLEX pass rates and net prices, and the ranking system identified SCC as one of the best value schools. NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination.

This year, the organization gathered over 3,000 nursing school’s data and ranked 1,721 schools across 45 states. The ranking formula uses the NCLEX pass rate and net-price as its parameters. If a school has a high NCLEX pass rate and low tuition, as SCC does, it ranks higher than other colleges.

SCC’s Practical Nursing program provides knowledge and skills to integrate safety and quality into nursing care to meet the needs of the holistic individual which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.
